Aloha HCJ Friends & Family,
Can you believe almost half the year is almost gone? Looking back on the past handful of months, we as a chapter have accomplished so much in so little time.
Our chapter membership has grown by nearly 20% and all of our activities have been in-person so far–a goal that our Board has worked tirelessly to fulfill since the easing of COVID-19. Rejoining long time members with newer members has been a constant discussion topic among the chapter board; we hope to continue working to create more, varied, and creative experiences for our members to re-emerge from the depths of our homes and back “into the wild.”
In addition, I’m happy to announce that we are reconnecting with some of our sister chapters as well. HCJ is responding to our sister chapter JCI Hong Kong Peninsula in their efforts to promote blood donations during this time of need by doing our own Blood Donation Social Media Campaign to encourage local blood donations. Please use the code #3123 to credit HCJ with your blood donations so we can track our amount of pints donated over time, and be sure to send in any photos or tag us on social media!
Next month, we are re-connecting our members with our other overseas sister chapter JCI Taipei in a “Mix n Mingle” virtual meet and greet. This event is perfect for those who have family members or are a member located on the mainland and unable to attend in-person events, so please register in advance on our website to attend this fun, informal event to meet working professionals in the Taiwanese community!
Some of the plans that we have for the next few months involve returning to our roots and celebrating the Chinese Dragon Boat Festival in July! Members from our chapter and Chinatown808, a nonprofit organization founded by members from HCJ members and other prominent leaders from the local Chinese community, are teaming up to revive the long-standing tradition with a different twist: land-dragon boat racing! Teams will gather at Aala Park to speed race to the finish– the benefit of this year’s land Dragon Boats are the added customizations-designs, prints, and embellishments- participants can include on their boats as they construct them. Sign up for the HCJ Dragon Boat Festival racing team or as a volunteer for the event on our website.
So many of our events are put on based on opportunity and the interests of our members. The Board uses the data collected from occasional general chapter surveys and post-event surveys to ensure best experiences for members. To ensure that your voice is heard, give those emails a second glance and consider filling them out before deleting them 😉
I sincerely hope to continue creating a friendly and supportive environment for members like yourself to explore different leadership roles, learn and grow from mistakes; an environment where you can be vulnerable and gain experience needed to move closer to the goals you want to achieve.
