01/25 - Chinatown Festival & Parade

Come volunteer with HCJ at the 2025 Chinatown Festival & Parade. Filled with food & vendors, entertainment, and a parade, we need your help to make this community event come to life. 

Date: Saturday, January 25th 

Time: 6:00 AM - 10:00 PM, spaced into 5-hour shifts

Where: Beretania Street & A'ala Park, Maunakea Street to A'ala Street

Please fill out our volunteer registration form to see which time slots you’d like to volunteer for. We look forward to seeing you there!

Duties Include:

ASB Parking Attendant: Check in vendors and volunteers who are on the ASB Parking list.

Morning Street setup: First shift only. Volunteers will place vendor signage and markings on the ground so vendors know where their space is located.

Assist Vendor Entrance & Booth Guides: Assist Chinatown 808 organizers to check in vendors and guide vendors into the street festival area to their designated booth assignment area.

Vendor Compliance: Ensure vendors are in compliance with rules, a checklist will be provided for all items that vendors need to comply with.

Sanitation: Check the City and County trash cans and the trash cans from ASB/Chinatown 808 to see if they are full. Remove and tie full trash bags and replace with new trash bags.

Monitor Loading Zone / Borthwick Parking: Prevent the public from using parking stalls reserved for vendors and performers, and prevent people from driving into the loading zone area.

Monitor Rest Tent: Guard the "rest tent" in Aala Park to make sure people are not abusing the space.

Stage Management: Monitor stage area and greet performers. Make announcements for performing groups, as needed.

Parade Shift

- Staging: Help arrange T-signs for each parade marching unit to help with staging each unit for the parade.

- Lion dance escort/lead: You will be assigned to one lion dance, during the parade you will help move the lion dance along if they are moving too slowly.

- Crowd Control: Ensure people who are on the streets watching the parade do not run into the streets or obstruct the parade.

- Signage for corvettes: Assist with putting signage on the corvettes using suction cups.

- Disbanding, removing suction cups: Assist with marching units at the end of the parade on where/how to disband. Assist with removing the suction cups from the corvettes to take off signage.

- Removing T-signs: Gather all the T-signs left on the State Capitol grounds where staging occurred.
